MAGNESIUM

Over half of U.S. residents do not get enough magnesium in their diet. Additionally, many medications, such as diuretics, heartburn medication, and alcohol, increase loss of magnesium in the urine. Magnesium deficiency is very common and is associated with many disorders:

Some individuals also suffer from kidney disorders that cause increased loss of magnesium in the urine. We have recently learned that medications used to treat diabetes, SGLT2 inhibitors, can reduce urinary magnesium wasting in people like this, dramatically improving symptoms.
